ZANY ZOO

Paper Piecing
The answer to how all those perfect points come about. You too can finish a piece with corners and points all perfect. This is the way! This technique class will get you started in the fascinating style of making quilt tops you might have thought were too difficult.

Sewing 101
Learning to sew has never been so fun! Make a delightful cosmetic-type bag while learning the basics of a sewing machine, what the different stitches are used for, why you have those different presser feet and more. You will be surprised at what you can do.

Quilting 101
The perfect way to learn to quilt! Dawn will show you how to use the “tools of the trade” correctly, safely and accurately. Choose fabrics of your choice to create your first quilt complete with borders.

Quilting 102
Let’s continue building and advancing on your quilting skills. This class will cover two methods of appliqué (machine and hand), how to add sashing, square up your quilt, add mitered borders, machine quilting and binding. The finished quilt is 36” square.

Machine Quilting
Now that you have finished the quilt top, it is time to learn the techniques for quilting the top. Using muslin practice squares, you will use many different patterns while getting the feel for this very important part of quilting.

Quilt/Fiber Art Adventure Club NEW******
This is a NEW class with NO EXPERIENCE necessary! Do you want to play and try new things? This bi-monthly group will be a fun and unique exploration of various mixed media and surface design techniques. Each project will be an adventure into a new area of media where you will create a one of a kind mini-art piece or small project. Kits will be provided at each session.

Little Jo
This is a 6-month program put together by Jo Morton featuring smaller quilts that can easily be completed in the month between meetings. Learn more about the Civil War, fabrics and patterns of that time period. Join anytime, fee is prorated. Kits available each month for the project.

This club started in January, but you can join anytime and catch up on the blocks you have missed. You must attend a session the 2nd Saturday of each month at either 9, 10 or 11 am with your previous months completed block. Sign up at the store and start working on the 2010 $5 Quilt.

Thimbleberries Club
Our 2010 Club is in full swing, enjoying this years’ great blocks. Plenty of help and ideas every month for block construction, extra projects and always a delicious receipe. This club meets the 1st Saturday (10 am or 1 pm) of each month. See the store for spaces available.
Civil War Tribute
In anticipation of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War next year, Marcus Brothers Fabrics and Homestead Hearth have created a sampler pattern and fabrics reproducded from that period. This group meets once a month for a sit and sew to construct that months’ block.

Special Events
Houston Quilt Show Bus Trip
Join us Thursday, November 4th or Saturday, November 6th for our annual trip to the Houston International Quilt Festival. The bus will leave both days at 6:30 a.m. from the store, returning around 10:30 p.m. the same evening. It is a day of fun and fantastic quilts with friends. We hope to have you with us!
